چکیده

At the moment the huge majority of the structural parts is based on pre-preg designs and standard prepreg manufacturing technology. They are processed conventionally out of Hand Lay-up and cured in autoclaves. The cost drivers are the hand-work, the use of autoclave and the quality control. The future success of new helicopter programs is strongly dependant on the development of cost efficient manufacturing along with enhancement of concurrent engineering of complex and light CFRP parts. Those technology drivers are summed up in the figure 1.

Region Growth Based Segmentation to Improve the Porosity of Cu - (5–20%) W Composite Preforms

While preparing the composite preform in the powder metallurgy Lab, the various defects due to porosity, open crack and residual stresses are possible. This may lead to poor life and strength of materials. It is difficult to predict the defects in the form of pores physically in the powder metallurgy Lab. To simplify this kind of problem, the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) images are genera...

Fabrication and Mechanical Properties of SiCw(p)/SiC-Si Composites by Liquid Si Infiltration using Pyrolysed Rice Husks and SiC Powders as Precursors

Dense silicon carbide (SiC) matrix composites with SiC whiskers and particles as reinforcement were prepared by infiltrating molten Si at 1550 °C into porous preforms composed of pyrolysed rice husks (RHs) and extra added SiC powder in different ratios. The Vickers hardness of the composites showed an increase from 18.6 to 21.3 GPa when the amount of SiC added in the preforms was 20% (w/w), and...

A novel approach to fabricate high volume fraction nanocomposites with long aligned carbon nanotubes

Conventional micro-fiber-reinforced composites provide insight into critical structural features needed for obtaining maximum composite strength and stiffness: the reinforcements should be long, well aligned in a unidirectional orientation, and should have a high reinforcement volume fraction. It has long been a challenge for researchers to process CNT composites with such structural features. ...

Bi-continuous metal matrix composites

Bi-continuous alumina/aluminium composites were made by infiltrating an alumina preform which had the structure of a reticulated ceramic foam. The low density preforms were prepared from a polyurethane suspension of alumina powder which was pyrolysed and sintered after foaming. Higher density preforms consisted of ceramic foams with open cells. All these preforms were infiltrated with 6061 alum...

Fatigue Life Prediction of Fiber-Reinforced Ceramic-Matrix Composites with Different Fiber Preforms at Room and Elevated Temperatures

In this paper, the fatigue life of fiber-reinforced ceramic-matrix composites (CMCs) with different fiber preforms, i.e., unidirectional, cross-ply, 2D (two dimensional), 2.5D and 3D CMCs at room and elevated temperatures in air and oxidative environments, has been predicted using the micromechanics approach. An effective coefficient of the fiber volume fraction along the loading direction (ECF...
